Unresolved Issues

  • Dial in access using 56K Modems and Windows 2008 Server.
    • Client computer can dial to the servers' phone number.
    • Servers' modem acknowledges incoming call, however the server will not respond.
    • Possible incompatibility issue w/ 2008?
  • Binding both data lines for ISDN
  • IP-helper

The situation at hand

Update (October 16th)

  • IP address migration has been completed
    • Subnets page will continue to be updated as needed.
  • 3 routers need to be connected together with a Token Ring network
    • This job is for Omar and his team only. No one else is to work on it.
** Two routers are now connected and can ping each other through the token ring.
** The ring is set at 16 Mbps and the routers have nothing else set on them other than the token interface.
    • Connections from the token ring routers to other places are as of yet unknown
  • All DHCP and DNS servers have been updated
    • ISDN routers need to be configured to let DHCP broadcasts through.

Update (October 13th)

  • The TA is now connecting successfully with the west router over ISDN and vice versa.
    • The problem was related to the physical layer. The configurations were there but the Tone Commander for that connection was on the wrong BRI port on the west router. After moving the cable it worked fine.
  • We now have to make use of the TAs analog phone connections to add a phone to its ISDN line.
  • We also need to connect two other analog phones to the Adtran. All three phones need to be able to call each other.
    • Three way calling is not necessary.
  • In order for any of our servers, east or west, to be available for a DHCP lease we need to change the IP addresses into one network. I have decided on the 10.20.0.0/16 network because it is nice and big. The subnets have been calculated and are available on their own page. The east side of the network has already been changed.

UPDATE (October 7th)

  • While I was working with the ISDN Pro TA, Jewett came over and told me that we had to move the BSD machine,

but he didn't say that we couldn't move the router with it. What he was getting at was that we could "move" the BSD and the router if we wanted to. This means that we can hook the ISDN Pro TA to the Win2k8 server, and leave the BSD machine attached to the router. This makes things a little easier because while looking today I couldn't find any support for Linux or Unix for the modem. So currently I have the ISDN Pro TA connected to the Win2k8 machine, the device was installed, but it still needs to be setup. Other than that I just wanted to give an update. --RyanV 22:42, 7 October 2008 (CDT)

    • I have acknowledged this and have taken a look at the Win2K8 machine but have not done anything yet. Drivers are installed, seems we just need to setup the Adtran for a phone number to dial into and configure it on the machine. --Tavan 16:39, 8 October 2008 (CDT)

(September 25)

  • Our central office has split into two locations: East and West.
    • Win2k8 and FreeBSD are at the West location
    • Win2k3 and SuSE are at the East location
    • Using ISDN, West is to provide East with an internet connection.
    • Two Cisco 4000 Routers and two 3Com ISDN Pro TA ISDN terminals are introduced.

(October 1)

  • Updated stuff
    • The 3Com ISDN Pro TA terminals are for home use only. They will not work with the 4000s
    • Received two Tone Commander NT1U-220TC interfaces for use with the Adtran.
    • Finished basic ISDN configuration of east and west isdn router. Currently you can ping across but not get to Internet

--Woelkec1 17:47, 1 October 2008 (CDT)

(October 2)

  • The BSD machine has moved to Berkley. Run ISDN link back to primary west location.
    • Make use of the 3Com ISDN Pro TA terminals.

To do

For 10/2/08...

  • Complete configuring services/test
    • DHCP (test to make sure both work)
    • DNS
    • FTP
  • Connect 871 router to the FSU network
  • Configure ISDN routers
  • Test network services from "East" to "West"
